Genealogy Beginners Classes

Pastfinders offers free beginner genealogy classes on a quarterly basis—in January, April, September, and November. Classes are held both in person at Cooper Memorial Library and virtually via Zoom. Please check the Event Calendar for exact dates and registration details.

Session 3: Obituaries, Naturalization & Government Archives

Dig deeper with government records and overlooked sources.

  • Discover the genealogical value of obituaries and how to find them
  • Follow the steps in the U.S. naturalization process and how they relate to census records
  • Search the National Archives for Alien Files (A-Files) and immigration records
  • Learn about the history of U.S. visas and how they may appear in records
